Man Ray’s Violin

LU Lei
290 x 125 x 90 cm
Installation | Aluminum plate, copper pipe, wood, compressor
2017

Inspired by Man Ray’s 1924 photograph “Ingre’s Violin”, this work pays homage to classicism in the same way. Golden Ratio is applied to the baseplate’s shape, while the “digestive system” formed by copper pipes connecting to a compressor gets frosted circularly. The artist hopes to reveal the spirit of early modernism through the mechanical aesthetics in this work.
