DONG Jinling: Sea & Mountain

Reflexion Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition, Sea and Mountain, by artist Dong Jinling on June 29th, 2024. The exhibition is the first solo show by the artist in Reflexion Gallery, featuring the artist’s latest large sculpture, performance, photography, and video works. It is also the first solo exhibition since the gallery opened.
The idea of the exhibition, Sea and Mountain, originates from one of the Chinese Taoism classics, Essay on the Uniformity of All Things. In the essay, a blacksmith called Gan Jiang crafted a sword that could easily sever gold or iron. In Taoist thinking, the very action of Gan Jiang crafting the sword, Bo Meng, is seen as actualizing the Taoist ideal. Thus, when Xun Zi asked Gan Jiang if he could craft the sword, Bo Meng, Gan Jiang replied, Sea and Mountain.
