Meditations in an Emergency

From May 21 to August 30, 2020, UCCA presents the group exhibition “Meditations in an Emergency”. The exhibition is organized in five chapters, focusing on people’s daily lives, the body and the politics of life, the dichotomy between humans and animals, human migration and geopolitics, and the impact of information technology on the future paradigm of society. Through the works of the 26 participating artists, the exhibition examines and reflects on the construction of the social reality of the current situation, as well as the impact of the present on the future. The title of the exhibition is taken from an anthology of poems written by American poet and curator of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Frank O’Hara (1926-1966), who wrote in one of his poems, “In moments of distress, we must all think again and again about who we love. ”
